Ingredients
- 2 cups water, luke warm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 5½–6 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 large apples, gala, honeycrisp, granny smith, or another tart and sweet variety
- 1/3 cup butter, melted or very soft
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup karo syrup
- 1/2 15-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- In a stand mixer, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir well and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix on low with a bread hook for 2 minutes until well-combined.
- Gradually add an additional 3½ cups of flour. Stir on low and add more flour if necessary until the dough pulls away from the sides. Knead on low for 3 additional minutes.
- Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until it doubles in size.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a rectangle. Roll it out to approximately 24" x 12" and 1/2" thick.
Notes
Make sure the water temperature is just warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
You can use any tart or sweet apple variety for the filling to suit your taste.
For extra richness, consider brushing the rolls with additional melted butter before baking.
