  • Total Time: 1 hour 9 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the mixture, then stir in the sour cream.
  4. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until well combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour to firm up.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F when ready to bake.
  7. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles using a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Place the cookie rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8–9 minutes, until barely golden for a soft texture.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting them.
  10. For the buttercream frosting, beat the softened butter until fluffy, then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually add the milk until achieving a smooth, spreadable consistency—add more if needed according to your texture preference.
  12. Divide the frosting into three bowls and color each with your choice of food coloring.
  13. Frost each cookie using a piping bag or offset spatula, and finish with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least 1 hour to achieve the best texture.
Cookies are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
Feel free to mix the frosting colors to match your Halloween theme!
