- 4 lbs. red garnet yams
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup melted salted butter (1 stick)
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp. molasses
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (add at the end)
Instructions
- Peel the yams and slice them into 1-inch pieces. Place them in the slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch until smooth. Pour this mixture into the slow cooker.
- Add melted butter, molasses, vanilla extract, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Do not add the brown sugar yet. Stir well to combine.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 4 hours. Avoid opening the lid during this cook time.
- Once cooking is finished, add the brown sugar to the slow cooker. Gently stir until combined.
- Serve warm and enjoy your candied yams!
Notes
Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar according to taste.
These yams can be made ahead of time and warmed up before serving.
For added flavor, consider topping with chopped pecans or walnuts.
